Co-Enzyme Q10 and its Link to Energy

Co-Enzyme Q10 and its Link to Energy

Co-Enzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant present in all human tissues and organs. This vitamin like nutrient plays a crucial role in the production of energy in your cells, and so the highest amounts are found in the organs that require the most energy; like the heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas; helping them to function properly.

The body produces CoQ10 naturally, but as we age our tissue levels of Co-Enzyme Q10 decline, as does our bodies’ ability to produce it. Many associate a decline in CoQ10 with the symptoms and diseases of ageing.

The richest dietary sources include oily fish such as mackerel or trout, organ meats such as liver, heart or kidney, and nuts. Lower levels can be found in most dairy products, vegetables, fruits and wholegrains.

Co Enzyme Q10 is vital in energy production processes. CoQ10 is stored in mitochondria which is the part of the cell where energy is produced. It is used in processes during the synthesis of ATP.  ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) is the basic form of cellular energy, and is needed by cells to function efficiently and stay healthy, which is why CO Enzyme Q10 is so essential.

As an antioxidant CoQ10 helps to protect cells against damage from toxic free radicals, and also plays significant roles in supporting and boosting the functioning of the immune system because of the high energy needs of the cells involved.

Also because of its role in energy production, and the high energy demands of the heart muscle, Co-Enzyme Q10 can support cardiovascular health and aid circulation. Studies have shown that CoQ10 has the potential to lower blood pressure in the treatment of hypertension.

Co-Enzyme Q10 is available as a supplement in many forms – as tablets, or hard shell capsules, soft gel capsules, and even sprays. Standard recommended dosages can be anywhere from 30mg per day, to as high as 200mg per day. A typical adult daily dose is 100mg. It is very difficult to get this level on a daily basis from food intake alone, so supplements for many are an effective option.

At Hellenia we produce 100mg capsules, recommending one capsule per day. As CoQ10 is fat soluble it is best absorbed when taken alongside a meal that contains oil or fat. For further product information visit our website www.hellenia.co.uk or to order click here.
