Vollagen® - A vegan Alternative to Collagen

Vollagen® - A vegan Alternative to Collagen

Collagen is the body’s most abundant protein. There are many different types of collagen, 28 in fact[¹], and they are differentiated by where they are formed and utilised in the body. Collagen is comprised of amino acids, these are the building blocks that are put together in differing ways to form the various structural proteins we have within the body - including skin, hair, nails, bones, cartilage and connective joint tissue - ligaments and tendons.

Now a major player in the health and wellbeing market, collagen has been hailed for its benefits in skin health and joint care.

Collagen is obtained from animal sources, such as fish skin and scales. Bovine collagen also exists coming from the bones and hides of cows. Marine collagen tends to be a popular choice due to it being hydrolysed (where the collagen is broken down into smaller protein chains called collagen peptides), this is in order to free the amino acids so they are easier for the body to absorb.

From as young as 25 our collagen levels begin to drop, and as we age our body’s ability to synthesise it gradually declines. Wrinkle formation and loss of firmness and tone in the skin is the result of the reduced level and quality of collagen, and a compromised skin barrier can also lead to dryness, breakouts and blemishes. The levels of collagen are typically reduced by 50% by the age of 50.

Given the increasing popularity and the benefit of collagen supplements, wouldn’t it be great if there was an option that was suitable for those who are vegan or trying to follow as much as possible a plant-based regime? Well now there is!

Vollagen® is a vegan alternative to collagen, and is composed of the same 18 amino acids as human collagen:  L-Alanine, L-Arginine HCl, L-Aspartic Acid, L-Glutamic Acid, Glycine, L-Histidine, L-Isoleucine, L-Leucine, L-Lysine HCl, L-Methionine, L-Proline, L-Serine, L-Threonine, L-Tyrosine, L-Valine, L-Phenylalanine, Hydroxyproline and Hydroxylysine.

The complex of amino acids emulates the ratio composition of human collagen amino acids in its entirety, providing the building blocks for all human collagen. The aim is to deliver the complex of collagen amino acids for the body to utilise and to stimulate the body’s creation of further collagen.

It is 100% plant source, and uses Corn Starch (non-GMO) as a starting material, it is produced using a proprietary fermentation and microencapsulation process, providing the desired ratio of amino acids in water-dispersable format. The amino acids in Vollagen® are already isolated and readily available for the body to easily absorb them.

Vollagen® has been subjected to independent consumer testing, with remarkable results. The study was conducted using female participants with a low dose of 1g per day (2 capsules) over 60 days.

Efficacy results were considered following the 60 day period of use, however many of the positive results were also reported in as little as 30 days.

Reported results after regular use over 60 days included:

« Increased firmness and hydration of the skin

« Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles

« Enhanced radiance and more even skin tone

« Less tired looking eyes and reduced appearance of dark circles

« Smoother more supple skin

« Reduction of breakouts and blemishes
