Krill Oil – Beneficial to Muscles

It is well researched that Krill oil contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids – EPA and DHA which studies have shown are important nutrients for the body as we age. Now research suggests that Krill Oil may be beneficial to muscle function and size in healthy people over the age of 65. A recent study led by the University of Glasgow’s Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences (ICAMS), found that supplementing with 4g Krill Oil per day could have beneficial effects on muscle function and size in the senior age group.

Healthy participating adults received daily krill oil supplementation for six months and showed statistically and clinically significant increases in muscle function and size.

The effect of krill oil supplementation on skeletal muscle function and size in older adults: A randomised controlled trial is published in Clinical Nutrition [1].
