Melmerby 10K 2021
Following the saddening but necessary cancellation of the annual Melmerby 10K 2020 road race amidst the pandemic last year it has understandably again been cancelled this year - However all is not lost, because there is an alternative plan…
The organisers of the event couldn’t let another year pass without people having the opportunity to run this enjoyable course. They have decided to offer people the chance to register for free this year, with the opportunity to still run the actual Melmerby 10K course beginning and ending in the picturesque village, north of Ripon. The invitation sees them open the course provisionally to runners for the whole month of May.
As a self-serve event, runners will register free of charge and choose their preferred day and time to complete the 10K course. The course has changed slightly, in order to keep everyone safe, the start and finish points will be at the cricket club rather than the usual play park. Participants should have no trouble completing the course by following all the direction arrows and warning signs in place, and everyone will get a time recorded with the use of QR codes. You just need to make sure you register at least 48 hours before the date you wish to run. Crucially the event organisers will be monitoring the number of entries to ensure groups are small and social distancing guidelines are still able to be adhered to, after all the safety and wellbeing of all those involved is paramount.
Although it is being offered as a free of charge event, many runners have indicated their willingness to make a voluntary contribution, so any profits will be donated to local good causes and charities.
As the main sponsor for the last 3 years we are continuing to show our support for this much loved event by offering prizes/products to the various category winners, and free native whey protein samples to all runners that take part. Although it will be a very different event this year Hellenia are sure that once again the Melmerby 10K will prove to be a rewarding achievement for all those involved, organisers & participants.
If you are interested in taking part in this year’s free of charge event check out the Melmerby run Facebook page. There are going to be continued updates from organisers regarding confirmed information, and announcements about how/when you can register.
