Echinacea is often used to stimulate the immune system and ward off coughs and colds. Echinacea has a long history as a herb used for infections and to boost the immune system. When antibiotics were seen as the magic that would make infections a thing of the past, this powerful herb fell into disuse. But now many people, who are reluctant to use antibiotics because of their side effects, are turning to echinacea.
Echinacea purpurea (Eastern purple coneflower) is a native to the eastern parts of North America. It may have its beneficial effects by increasing the production of white blood cells and improving the lymph glands.
Echinacea may also be helpful for recurring problems such as sinusitis, thrush, urinary tract infection, middle ear infections and acne. Pairs well with Agnus Castus for menstrual acne.
There are no known side effects, although it is possible that people who are allergic to flowers from the same family (daisies) could also react to this herb.
